There are certain instances when a pet will live longer than it’s owner. When this occurs, owners of those animals have the option of including them in a trust in order to know that they will be taken care of after their passing.

When writing a pet trust it is important to keep some key points in mind. Some of these points include: detailed instructions on the care for the animal, setting a specific amount of money aside for the pet, and realizing that these documents can be put in place before or after death.

Pet trusts can be very prominent documents to a pet owner. It is necessary to plan these out in detail in order to avoid the court changing certain aspects after death. If the outlined document seems excessive or allocates more to the animal than to a human relative, then the court may alter some areas of that trust.

The Houston estate planning lawyers of Garg & Associates have learned that after a 68 percent decline in profits in the fourth quarter, Texas Instruments has decided to stop their operations at two plants. One of those plants is the Houston plant, which has been in operation for more than 40 years.

This decision also affects roughly 1,000 employees, who will be out of jobs as well. These changes in the company will allow Texas Instruments to save more than $100 million on a yearly basis. All of the production at these two plants will be shifted to other plants throughout the world.

After news of the closings became public, the shares of stock in the company rose by 3 percent, or $1.11. The plant closings will go into effect immediately and will be carried out within the next 18 months.

A will is an important document to have drawn up while you are still living in order to prepare for life after your death. If someone is unsure of how they want to distribute their assets or who their possessions should go to, it is necessary to have professional help. Without professional opinions, common mistakes could be made when writing a will.

These mistakes could include:

Leaving out assets

Dismissing mandatory fees and taxes

Not naming all guardians

Forgetting minute details such as; date and witnesses

Vague description of possessions

Although these mistakes would not be made on purpose, they do have several consequences associated with them. After your death, your family will, unfortunately, have to go through a long probate process in order to even receive items listed in your will.

If you need assistance constructing your will, please contact the Houston estate planning lawyers of Garg & Associates, P.C. by calling 281-362-2865 today.

The outages come after large storms hit Houston on Monday. These storms left large amounts of hail and rain in their wake. Tornado warnings were issued early on Monday but have since been lifted. Five campuses that are part of the Houston Independent School District have also lost power.

Several streets in the city are already flooded. The city is preparing for flood-related evacuations because the rain is expected to continue.

The $5,000,000 federal exemption directly relating to estate planning will come to an end in 2012. This exemption will be changed back to it’s original amount of $1,000,000.

It is important to include estate planning on your list of resolutions for the new year. Many had hoped that there would be an extended timeline on this exemption, but currently that doesn’t seem to be the case. In 2012, try focusing your efforts on the basic tools needed in estate planning and outline a plan that can easily be accomplished.

In the new year, take the time to create a living will. Living wills will document what you believe should happen to you in the case of a medical emergency. A will should also be developed, if it hasn’t already. You are able to determine how your assets will be distributed, and to whom, after you are gone. If you have already completed these tasks, then spend some time in 2012 revising their details and refreshing them if necessary.

If you have any questions regarding estate planning, please contact the Houston estate planning lawyers of Garg & Associates, P.C. by calling 281-362-2865 today.

The City of Houston has decided to get involved and help the organization this year. The Mayors’ Citizens’ Assistance Office has raised $25,000 to contribute to Elves & More’s efforts to purchase bicycle helmets. There are 36 schools in the Houston area that are involved with the organization and this year 8,000 underprivileged children were able to receive brand new bicycles and helmets.

Several other sponsors also contributed to the project including Texas Children’s Hospital and Conoco Phillips.

An 87-year-old Florida man who passed away last year has willed his house as well as $1 million to the government. His nieces and nephews did not dispute the will due to the fact that they knew this is what their uncle was passionate about.

The man had hopes that the sale of his house as well as $1 million of his own money could help the United States remove some of it’s growing debt. The government put the 1929 historic home up for auction and the winning bidder offered $1.175 million for the property.

There were over 700 people who toured the home and 15 of those individuals participated in the auction. The government will also sell the contents of the home in January.

Living wills are documents that are prearranged by an individual with instructions on what to do in the case of a severe accident or illness.

The baby boomer generation believe that they are too healthy and young to have living wills. An Associated Press study found that nearly 64 percent of baby boomers born between the years 1946 and 1964 say that they do not have an official living will document.

The thought of death doesn’t seem to cross the minds of these individuals who feel like they extremely active and healthy for their age. According to the study, they don’t feel like it will be necessary to have a living will until they are well into their 70s.

Although these people may lead healthy lifestyles, it is still a good idea to possess a living will with requests written out. A living will can be tailored to the individual’s specific requests in different situations regarding life and death.

If you would like more information on living wills, please contact the Houston living will lawyers of Garg & Associates, P.C. by calling 281-362-2865 today.
